So I spent the past hour perusing through Pinterest and Polyvore and thought that this would be a ‘fitting’ post to write. Buying clothes and putting together outfits that accentuate the best parts of you can be daunting, difficult and time consuming but highly necessary. In this post I will list 8 reasons on how to dress your best and also give a few tips and tricks that I have learnt! So let’s go..
- Take care of yourself
That’s right, exercise and eating well plays a vital part in dressing you best. If you feel good you will automatically look good. Even if it’s just a 30 minute walk a day – it will make a difference!
This links up with the first point. When you feel confident – you feel like you can do anything and that is one of the best feelings EVER. Feeling confident makes you want to get out there and be more active and it also reminds yourself of how amazing you are. We are our own biggest critics and feeling great really kicks that negativity out.
3. Wear clothes you are comfortable in
I mean, why would you want to put yourself through wearing an uncomfortable outfit? I have been guilty of doing this a lot as I always think the outfit looks great and ignore the uneasy feeling I have – which I soon regret once I step out the house.
Wearing an outfit or a piece of clothing you are not feeling to good in will be on your mind for the rest of the night. So even it’s not the cutest thing you have on, you won’t need to worry about it.
4. Be patient, not eager
Yes, it may be exciting in the moment when you are in Zara and you see that blush colour, fur coat that you convince yourself you HAVE TO HAVE. But what you don’t think of is that you will probably never wear it.
If it is something you are unsure of wait at least THREE days and if you are still thinking about it after – then go for it. Buying clothes you don’t really need will just clutter up your closet and make you feel a tad guilty for never wearing.
5. Under garments are IMPORTANT!
Yes ladies! Even if no one will see them, wearing a good bra and underwear will make a huge difference to how your outfit will sit on your body. If your bra/underwear is too tight, loose, low or high – it will give a false illusion of your body and it will not be able to show the true outfit.
Don’t sabotage yourself like that, rather invest in one or two good sets of underwear that you can alternate. Most shops that sell underwear also offer free measurements, so get yourself measured so you know your exact size!
6. Fitted Clothes make a difference
No matter what size you are, it can be hard to find clothing items that fit you well – to a point that you will settle for anything. This is a big no no since well fitted clothes make a HUGE difference to your look as it can really add something extra to your outfit and make you look put together and flatters all your best parts. (I am going to make a whole different blog post on this as there is so much to say).
7. Hair + Makeup is crucial
You cannot just rely on the outfit to carry your look honey, good hair and makeup is just as important. If you are not that into doing either – keeping your hair neat and maintained (regular, healthy cuts) and having a good skin care will do the trick.
If you are into doing crazy things – don’t feel shy but always remember that if it doesn’t work with what you are wearing, chances are it will hold your whole look back. Just always remember to do what YOU are comfortable with (refer to #2)
8. Look for inspiration when styling
When you are in the shops and looking at something you are unsure on how to wear – it can be a bit daunting to buy. This links with #4 – where you should never buy things on a whim, rather go home and research outfit ideas. I personally like to look on Pinterest as well as look books to see how other people style that item. Sometimes even just going onto google search and typing in what you want to see allows for quick images to pop up. You will be surprised with how easy it is to create them.
TIPS + TRICKS:
- It is okay to take your clothes to the tailor and get them altered – not everything in store will fit you perfectly.
- Sometimes if the lighting and the mirrors aren’t working for you – take the item home and try it on where you are comfortable. You can always return it if you are not happy (but remember to keep your RECEIPT!)
- When buying pants, buy a pair that is a bit snug – the fabric will loosen over time and eventually fit you like a glove.
- Read the washing instructions!! So simple to miss but crucial if you are not keen on ruining your clothes. I always like to be extra careful and air dry all my tops, pants and dresses.
I hope these tips help you out and allow you to dress in the best version of yourself. They are definitely something I have been following for a few years now and I can say that I have seen a huge difference. Be sure to look out for a follow up post on how to fit your garments to your body – coming soon!
Have a great day!
